Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic opens photographic exhibition “Women building hope step by step”

The sample of 12 photographs will be on display in the Central Lobby of Galería 360 during the month of March, in commemoration of International Women’s Day.

Santo Domingo, March 6. Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic, to improve the living conditions of        low-income families through access to decent housing, opens the photographic exhibition “Women building hope step by step”.

The exhibition of 12 photographs will be on display in the Central Lobby of Galería 360 throughout the month of March, and is held in commemoration of International Women’s Day.

Regarding the inauguration, Cesarina Fabián, national director of Habitat Dominicana, stated that “a woman with a safe home has a greater chance of becoming an entrepreneur, creating opportunities for herself and her environment. A decent home has a fundamental impact that transcends from health, well-being to the feeling of security and progress, “she said.

With this exhibition, Habitat for Humanity DR seeks to highlight the work of women heads of households, housewives, entrepreneurs, who have been in situations of vulnerability and who, thanks to the support of the organization, managed to progress with the establishment of small economic activities in their own homes, whose repair, improvement and construction were involved.

The selection of photographs is made up of cases of families served and intervened by Hábitat Dominicana in the communities of Haina, Los Alcarrizos, Santiago, San Juan, Seibo and Miches.

One of the photographs on display is that of Dolores, who joined Habitat to build a custom house for her and her two children. “I felt tired of the instability that my children were experiencing when we moved so many houses, so the Habitat project came into my life and everything changed, I sleep peacefully because nobody will come to get us out, now this is our house,” says Dolores.

2019 Results. The numbers of the Habitat Dominican Republic demonstrate the success of the organization in the country. During the year 2019 alone, the NGO positively impacted 4,700 Dominicans through projects that affected the country’s housing deficit, through improved and new houses, thus achieving an impact on the health, safety and educational performance of the inhabitants. of each home.

With the housing solutions of the year 2019, after 34 years of presence in the country, Hábitat Dominicana has more than 27 thousand houses intervened that translate to 135,000 benefited people. For this 2020, it aims to continue increasing the number of families served, to empower more Dominicans with housing.
