Banco ADOPEM and Habitat for Humanity will finance rural housing

Banco ADOPEM and Habitat for Humanity sign an agreement to develop the program “Eco Vivienda ADOPEM”, a project designed to finance, design and promote green rural housing.

 

Habitat for Humanity, an international non-profit organization that intervenes on the issue of housing in the Dominican Republic, carried out studies on the target population and the design of non-financial services in the provinces of Hato Mayor, Barahona, Jarabacoa, La Vega and Monte Plata. This new program is part of the sustainability strategy promoted by the BBVA Microfinance Foundation in transcending to a greener bank.

 

Banco ADOPEM, entity of Fundación Microfinanzas BBVA, is the only regulated financial institution in the Dominican Republic with an eco-sustainable productive credit program with innovative financial and technological services to improve the lives of its inhabitants (Créditos Verdes).

 

The Fundación Microfinanzas BBVA, with its mission of promoting economic and social development, it operates in a manner aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, impacting to various degrees, eight of them. These SDGs are included in the United Nations 2030 Agenda, which recognizes the role of financial inclusion and microfinance in poverty reduction and in economic and social development.

 

With the technical and financial support of ADA-REDCAMIF-REDOMIF, this initiative will allocate financing for housing in rural areas, and with measures for the sustainable use of available resources (solar energy, rainwater, energy saving light bulbs, etc.), and the promotion of a livelihood.

 

In this first phase, as part of the expansion of the Programa Finanzas Rurales y Ambiente (FRA), part of the program “Mejoramiento del valor social agregado a las Microfinanzas” sponsored by Redcamif and ADA, plans to improve the quality of life in rural areas by strengthening inclusive financial instruments.

 

The implementation of this project includes close contact with the inhabitants of rural areas to understand their needs, capacities and preferences, as well as developing financial products and services with added value, to generate a better user experience.
