Santo Domingo (mayo 2022) – With the purpose of celebrating Dominican Mother’s Day, Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic together with the communicators Jatnna Tavarez, Miralba Ruiz, Barbara Plaza and Paloma Rodríguez, made its first edition of Women Build in the Dominican Republic.
Women Build brings the opportunity so that women give a proactive step to serve its community and build strength, stability and self-reliance. Women have the capacity and necessary determination to build homes, so that women and their families may have a decent place to live.
The communicators build a concrete floor for Marcia’s house, a woman who is head of household, hard working and brave, thanks to her hard work as a domestic worker and her entrepreneur selling patty burgers, she has continued to move forward. Through her housing microfinance given by one of our partner microfinance institutions, Habitat Dominican Republic has built her house progressively.
Women and influencers build to support Marcia and celebrate together on Mother’s Day, because they know the importance of having a decent house for her mother, where her family can have health, study and be well to have a space to share moments of joy, creating lovable moments.
Thanks to the support of the Building Hope Step by Step Project by Habitat Dominican Republic, this woman is empowered and is an example to other women. She has already taken 6 microcredits allowing her to improve her living conditions progressively. Before, her house was made of wood, which made her house vulnerable under natural atmospheric events. Now its’ made of block and is more secure.
At Habitat Dominican Republic, together with these communicators, we wanted to collaborate with Marcia to surprise her with the construction of concrete floor, which will impact her life in a positive way, helping her to have a quality of life, health and hygiene for this special time.
The communicators interacted with the new homeowner, learned about her story and felt identified with all the effort she has made to achieve that her family can continue to move forward and progress, even more, they worked together, with the assistance of the construction team and their helping hands they could build floors, an experience that they felt very grateful for.
We have lived a wonderful moment, of impact of her life with Marcia and for us an organization, we feel happy to collaborate with Marcia, to exalt her strength as a brave women and more than grateful with all of you who said present since we contacted you and said yes to the cause, we invite you so you can continue to sum up initiatives, because we cannot achieve it without the involvement of women, volunteers, entrepreneurs and individuals,” manifested Cesarina Fabián, National Director of Habitat Dominican Republic.
“I am very happy, thank you very much Habitat Dominican Republic, for the support, my children will be very comfortable and my grandchildren will be able to play when they visit my house, thanks to these women who came to build in my home,” Marcia said.
Even more these volunteer communicators, Mrs. Carmen Esteva de Marranzini also accompanied us as a leader of the initiative for Women Entrepreneurs in the country.

About Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic
Habitat for Humanity is a global, non-profit, non-governmental organization that works to ensure that every person has a decent place to live through programs focused on microfinance for housing, minimizing risk and increasing response to disasters.
Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic empowers families to create strength, stability and self-sufficiency through housing. Since the beginning of its work in 1986, the institution has carried out more than 39,000 two hundred solutions and impacted around 196,000 people.
Dominican Habitat contributes to the country in improving the living conditions of families that are part of the qualitative and quantitative housing deficit. This is achieved by developing programs that facilitate access to housing micro-financing for low-income families with technical assistance in construction, and by creating financial education programs that support and contribute to reducing the deficit. We empower with housing.
