The project in conjunction with UNDP aims to work through training and resilient reconstruction of the houses that will be intervened in Sabana de la Mar.<\/span><\/p>\n

As part of the interventions, it is intended to work on the resilient reconstruction of 52 houses, prioritizing the houses where they have established a business, which serves as a means of livelihood in their own home, training of 15 teachers in resilient construction with the delivery of their materials educational.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

To establish community leadership and reach more than 3,000 people indirectly, work will be done to create community response plans and trained brigades.\u00a0This in order to strengthen training, community empowerment and the involvement of partner organizations and community volunteering.<\/span><\/p>\n

Inka Mattila, UNDP Resident Representative indicated that “”Joining efforts we can support vulnerable families and communities affected by the passage of Hurricane Fiona in the northeast of the Dominican Republic, contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals of eradicating poverty (SDG 1), guarantee food security (SDG 2) and improve the health and well-being of the population (SDG 3)\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n

In response to the damage caused by Fiona, Habitat for Humanity under the concepts of good practices in the construction of safe, sustainable and resilient structures to climate change, as well as training in emergency preparedness and response and UNDP as a transforming organization that supports national development collaborates with the organization to strengthen habitability in affected communities after the past atmospheric phenomenon in Sabana de la Mar, eastern part of the country.\u00a0These efforts are in line with SDG No. 11 on more sustainable and resilient Cities and Communities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are very happy for the signing of this agreement that translates into progress for the families that will be supported in Sabana de la Mar, we continue with firm steps and achieving that the mission that each person has a decent place to live can be fulfilled, thanks to the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) for joining the cause, together we empower with housing\u201d, said Cesarina Fabi\u00e1n, national director of Habitat Dominicana.<\/span><\/p>\n

The selection of beneficiaries will be carried out according to the policies of priority for vulnerable groups, technical-constructive logistics and in housing interventions that develop a business in some space of their home.<\/span><\/p>\n

Hurricane Fiona affected the country in the month of September of last year, with category 1, brought strong winds and torrential rain that caused the overflow of rivers and ravines, affecting communication, infrastructure and homes.\u00a0The Government through decree 537-22 declared an emergency in the provinces of La Altagracia, La Romana, El Seibo, Saman\u00e1, Hato Mayor, Mar\u00eda Trinidad S\u00e1nchez, Duarte and Monte Plata.<\/span>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
