{"id":2799,"date":"2019-11-28T16:24:05","date_gmt":"2019-11-28T20:24:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/habitatdominicana.org\/?p=2799"},"modified":"2024-07-26T09:03:24","modified_gmt":"2024-07-26T13:03:24","slug":"habitat-empodera-dominicanos","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/habitatdominicana.org\/en\/habitat-empodera-dominicanos\/","title":{"rendered":"Habitat for Humanity empowers families"},"content":{"rendered":"For over 30 years the international non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity works to<b>\u00a0improve the living conditions of millions of families<\/b> \u00a0in more than 70 countries, especially those who do not have enough income to have decent housing.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Starting from the premise that &#8220;every one deserves a decent place to live&#8221;, <a href=\"https:\/\/habitatdominicana.org\/\">Habitat Dominican<\/a>\u00a0has sought to\u00a0respond to those needs with the completion of more than\u00a0\u00a0<b>26,000 housing solutions\u00a0<\/b>\u00a0that have impacted\u00a0<b>\u00a0<\/b>some\u00a0\u00a0<b>135,000 people\u00a0<\/b> in the country, explains Cesarina Fabian , director of Habitat for Humanity in Dominican Republic.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The welfare of families defined by different elements, one of them is to have peace of decent housing for the coexistence of the members of the family.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A home provides strength, stability and self-reliance necessary for families to get ahead and have a better future, we work to provide support to families that need it, with the idea that empower and feel able to achieve for themselves a decent place to live&#8221;says Fabian.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The director explained that &#8220;contribute to the development of the country with improving the quality of life of families that are part of the qualitative and quantitative housing deficit through access to microfinance for housing, with technical assistance in building and creating financial education programs that support to lower the deficit. &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, Fabian mentioned that housing is a catalyst entity that contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).\u00a0Housing as a\u00a0process can create the family a sense of place and belonging promoting community cohesion.\u00a0It also has effects on the family and that the building in a proper way you create\u00a0<b>\u00a0resilience and reducing vulnerability to economic, social issues and events related to climate.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The quality of housing has major implications for the health of people, according to the World Health Organization.\u00a0That instance in its report indicates that there is a clear link between housing and health and how this has grown substantially in recent times.\u00a0Demographic and climate change are making housing an element increasingly important for health.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The poor living conditions can expose individuals to a range of health risks.\u00a0Housing insecurity, lack of income or changes for rental homes exposed to family stress.\u00a0The pollution causes many non-communicable diseases, damages the respiratory and cardiovascular health.\u00a0Inadequate water and sanitation affects food safety and personal hygiene which facilitates the transmission of various diseases.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Currently Habitat for Humanity Dominican Republic is\u00a0developing three projects:\u00a0\u00a0<b>providing access to housing<\/b>\u00a0, which help families to turn housing into a durable asset;\u00a0<b>volunteer<\/b>\u00a0, with which have been successfully organized national and international construction brigades;\u00a0and\u00a0\u00a0<b>financial services project<\/b>\u00a0, with which seek to\u00a0facilitate access to microloans to low &#8211;\u00a0income families, so they can purchase a full housing, repair or improve it\u00a0.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In a press release it indicates that these projects represent contributions to the country Dominican Habitat towards reducing vulnerabilities in different areas of Dominican society.","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For over 30 years the international non-profit organization Habitat for Humanity works to\u00a0improve the living conditions of millions of families \u00a0in more than 70 countries, especially those who do not have enough income to have decent housing. &nbsp;
